Our School Council - Y Cyngor Ysgol

Pupil voice is at the heart of Haverfordwest High VC School and the School Council is an important aspect of school life. 

This year Haverfordwest High VC School is committed to ensuring that pupils feel valued. We feel it is essential for pupils to be involved in shaping their learning. Therefore we have developed two School councils; pastoral and curriculum. Each consists of representatives from each year groups and all curriculum areas, providing a way for all pupils to give their valued opinions to the school and ensure that the learners are leading learning. 

School Council teaches pupils about democracy and how to bring about change by using their voice in a constructive manner.  The aim of the School Council is to teach our pupils that working together in a productive way helps shape the community to which they belong.  It promotes collective action, strengthens team work, encourages debate and teaches the valuable lesson of compromise.

Membership of the School Council is a democratic process. Form representatives will be selected on a termly basis, therefore allowing for more pupils to be involved. Year representatives are selected following a thorough interview process, conducted by the senior prefect team. Curriculum Ambassadors are selected by Learning Managers.

The pupils meet on a regular basis to discuss issues which affect school life.  These issues are ones that the School Council feel are important for the school or topics that other pupils or staff have brought to the members.  Mrs Natalie Williams,  Assistant Learning Manager of Health and Wellbeing, is the lead member of staff who helps organise our council. She is also supported by Miss Rosie Mankee and Mr Tim Evans.
